Farm Service Agency Now Accepting Nominations for Farmers and Ranchers to Serve on Local County Committees

County committee members make important decisions about how Federal farm programs are administered locally. USDA Improves Pecan Tree Crop Insurance Policy

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) has announced improvements to its Pecan Tree crop insurance policy to simplify the program and increase participation for the 2023 and succeeding crop years. These improvements were prompted by feedback from producers that the complexity of the program could be limiting participation. Policies must be purchased by May 15, 2022, for the 2023 crop year beginning on July 1, 2022.

Crop Insurance Deadline Nears in Georgia for Spring Planted Crops and Whole-Farm Revenue Protection

The USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds Georgia corn, cotton, flue-cured tobacco, grain sorghum, peanut, sesame, and soybean growers that the final date to apply for crop insurance coverage for the 2022 crop year is February 28. Growers who are interested in the Whole-Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) policy and are calendar year or early fiscal year filers, have until February 28 to apply for crop insurance. Current policyholders who wish to make changes to their existing coverage also have until the February 28 sales closing date to do so.

Flint River Soil & Water Conservation District Announces Agricultural & Environmental Education Grants for 2022-2023 School Year

The Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District will award $2,000 in grant funds through the Agricultural & Environmental Education Grant for K-12 programming within the District’s nine counties. The grant opportunity promotes conservation education and provides additional resources for both formal and non-formal educators looking to engage their students in agriculture and/or natural resources education.

GACD Now Accepting 2022 Scholarship Applications

Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) awards an annual scholarship of $1,000 to encourage study and careers in soil and water conservation related fields. Awards will be given to students majoring in, or intending to major in, a soil and water conservation related area. Acceptable areas of study include, but are not limited to, agricultural education, agronomy, horticulture, plant pathology, and agricultural communications.
