Florida Armed to Farm Training

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is teaming up with Florida A&M University to bring the Armed to Farm training to Tallahassee, Florida from April 1-5. Participants will learn about business planning, budgeting, record keeping, marketing, USDA programs, livestock production, fruit and vegetable production, organic farming, and more.

Veterans who want to attend the week-long training must apply by March 1.

In partnership with the USDA Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement, the Georgia Heirs Property Center and Team Agriculture Georgia will coordinate a workshop to provide information and guidance to help farmers, ranchers, and landowners understand and apply for the Discrimination Financial Assistance Program (DFAP). In addition to learning about DFAP, attendees will also hear about free services offered by the Georgia Heirs Property Law Center to solve heirs property issues and provide estate plans. Other speakers will include representatives from Golden Triangle RC&D, USDA, and local farmer-support organizations.

About the ALbany Workshop

In partnership with the USDA Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement, Georgia Heirs Property Center and Team Agriculture Georgia will coordinate a workshop to provide information and guidance to help farmers, ranchers, and landowners understand and apply for the Discrimination Financial Assistance Program (DFAP).

This free workshop will take place on October 3 from 9:30 am-12:00 pm in the Candy Room at the Riverfront Resource Center in Albany, Georgia. Attendees should register in advance. Please register using the form below.




Program OVerview

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) authorized the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to implement the Discrimination Financial Assistance Program (DFAP or “the Program”) in order to provide financial assistance to farmers, ranchers and forest landowners who experienced discrimination in USDA’s farm lending prior to January 1, 2021.

You are eligible if

(1) you applied for a loan through a USDA Farm Service Agency and were denied due to discrimination on the basis of

  • Race, color, or national origin/ethnicity (including status as a member of an Indian Tribe)

  • Sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity

  • Religion

  • Age

  • Marital status

  • Disability

  • Reprisal/retaliation for prior civil rights activity;

(2) this discrimination occurred in the form of

  • Failure to provide appropriate assistance.

  • Delay in processing loan or loan servicing application.

  • Denial of a loan or loan servicing.

  • Prevention from applying for a loan or loan servicing.

  • Adverse loan terms.

  • Unduly onerous supervision of loan requirements;

and (3) you can provide supporting documents.
