The Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers Policy Research Center Hosts Meeting to Receive Comments on 2023 Farm Bill

The Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers Policy Research Center (Policy Center), located at Alcorn State University, will host a virtual meeting on July 20th from 9:00 am-12:00 pm CT to discuss issues and challenges faced by SDFR in preparation for the 2023 Farm Bill.

The Policy Center specializes in policy research impacting SDFRs. Through collaboration with universities and organizations inside and outside the land-grant community, the Policy Center leverages employees’ expertise and increases personnel capacity with contractual partnerships with other universities and agencies.

The mission of the Policy Center is to conduct research, analyze policy and make recommendations seeking to achieve equitable and economic integration of USDA programs and policies for socially disadvantaged farmers, ranchers, communities, and rural landowners. During the meeting, we plan to discuss the findings and policy recommendations from research studies funded by the Policy Center and gather additional information on priorities identified by the SDFR Policy Center Advisory Board.

This meeting is one in a series of meetings hosted by the Policy Center in preparation for 2023 Farm Bill. After the meetings and at the conclusion of current research studies, the information collected will be synthesized and policy recommendations will be developed. These recommendations will be prioritized and shared with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and House Agriculture Committee members. The information will also be shared with participating SDFR, Community- Based-Organizations (CBO) and land grant universities.
